Simple Energizing and Centering Meditation

Today, I would like to share with you a simple visualization exercise that can help increase your energy level. This is especially good if you are feeling drained, lethargic or depressed. It is also an excellent daily exercise to keep you strong, centered and balanced.

It only takes a few minutes and you can incorporate this into your regular meditation practice.

How to Do It

  1. Sit Down. While it is best to sit in a quiet place by yourself, it is not necessary. You can do this anywhere at almost anytime -- except while you are driving a car or operating heavy machinery.

  2. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Briefly focus your attention on your heart.

  3. Now imagine that you have a heavy duty power cord, like something attached to a large electrical appliance.  This power cord connects to you at the base of your spine and runs up along your spine to your heart.

  4. Imagine plugging this cord into the ground. Breathe consciously in and out through your nose. As you do this, imagine the energy of the earth flowing up the cord and into your chest.

  5. Next, imagine a little trap door opening at the very top of your head. A silver cord shoots up to the sky from this trap door. While still breathing consciously, imagine energy flowing down from the sky, through your head and neck, and meeting the energy from earth in the center of your chest.

  6. Breath consciously and feel the energy flow from both the sky and the earth meeting in your chest. Then feel this energy radiating outward from your chest and energizing your whole body.

  7. Sit quietly for a few minutes while you feel this energy flow. If you don’t feel anything, imagine that you do. Five minutes is a good amount of time to do this exercise, although you can go longer if you like. Listen to your intuition to know when to stop.

  8. When you are finished, say to yourself quietly. “I am finished.” Imagine yourself unplugging from the earth and the sky. Imagine rolling up your power cords like your would when you finish vacuuming.

That’s it. This is a very simple yet effective meditation that you can do either by itself or at the end of your usual daily meditation.

With this exercise, you are centering yourself, connecting with the heavens and earth and powering yourself.

Try doing this for several days to see if you can feel any difference in your energy levels. By connecting yourself energetically in this manner, your energy will begin to flow more healthily and you should begin to notice changes in your life as you become more in balance and connected with the energy of everything around you.

A Variation If You Have Too Much Energy

There is a variation of this exercise if you have too much energy inside of you, for example if you have agitated because of an argument.

  1. Sit down, close your eyes and take a deep breath. Focus briefly on your heart.

  2. Imagine plugging in the power cord that is attached to the base of your spine into the earth.

  3. Imagine the pent-up excess energy flowing from your heart down your spine, through the power cord into the earth.

  4. Breathe consciously and sit quietly as you feel the excess energy flow into the ground. If you don’t feel anything, imagine that you do.

  5. Do this for several minutes until you feel calm and in balance.

  6. When you are done, say to yourself: “I am finished.” Imagine rolling up your power cord.

Centering Yourself is Important

Taking the time to center yourself is very important. One of the most important things you can do is living from a peaceful, calm and powerful center. Your heart is your center.

Practice centering yourself daily. Like anything else, the more you practice, the stronger you will become. You will be less negatively affected by people and events. You will become more connected with everything and the universe will work for you, rather than against you.

Even taking one moment to close your eyes, focus your attention on your heart and taking a deep breath before doing anything helps immensely.

Visualizations and Imagination Are Powerful Tools

Visualizations and your imagination are powerful tools. They help our minds focus our attention on intangible things. Trying to tap into and focus energy is a pretty difficult fish to wrap your figures around. As humans, we need something tangible to focus our attention on.

Of course, if these exercises don’t work for you, then that is okay. Put them off to the side and move on. Find what works for you. Please give them a fair trial. One time is not enough. You don’t do push-ups once and expect to be strong right away. The same is true for your inner exercises.
